Des Williams, Marine Archaeologist, will talk about his book of TSS Coramba which is a timely introduction to our excursion to Queenscliffe. All welcome to join us for tea/coffee and an entertaining talk.
For this excursion we will be car pooling – the coach cost is getting a bit much. All to meet at the Vancouver Street car park to leave at 8.30 am to catch the 10.00 am Searoad Ferry from Sorrento. The cars will be left at Sorrento.
On board the ferry Devonshire morning tea will be served (Yum) and a lift from their car deck to the lounge is provided. The Queenscliffe Maritime Museum visit is one hour guided tour. Lunch is at your expense, either a picnic in the park or at one of the many cafes and restaurants in the town.

We have a very interesting guest speaker this month in John Hedley. John is slate roof and tiling expert who has worked on Mornington houses and won aHeritage Award for his work. The venue is our usual meeting room at the Fire Brigade, corner of Nepean Highway and Separation Street Mornnington. Al welcome for the princely cost of $5.00 each. Join us for a cuppa – tea or coffee and good company.
This morning is all about children’s literature. Moira Robinson from Frankston’s Robinson’s Book Shop will share her knowledge and experience as an editor and lecturer of children’s literature. All welcome, cost is $5.00 per person.
Departure from Mornington bus stop opposite Ross Street. Stop for morning tea then an hour guided tour of the Chinese Museum. Lunch at your expense followed by a 45 minute guided tour of the State Library. Bus returns from Melbourne to Mornington at 3.15 pm. Mornington & District Historical Society Anuual General Meeting is on September 11 2018 at 10.30 am in the Meeting Room of the Mornington Fire Brigade, cnr Separation Street and Nepean Highway Mornington. The committee will report on the Society’s activities for the past year followed by an election of all committee positions.

Val Wilson will escort participants around this historic cemetery pointing out interesting stories about the early Mornington Pioneers. Meet at the Cemetery Main Gates in Craigie Raod Mt. Living Culture is the title of this year’s Moorhead Lecture delivered by indigenous man Lionel Launch. Lionel will take us through a variety of aspects of aboriginal culture including medicinal plants and ending with a didgeridoo performance. Numbers are limited . Book through Dawn on 03 5977 0027. The location is at The Briars Information Centre, a historic property in Mt. Martha.
The next Mornington & District Historical Society coffee morning is on Tuesday February 12th 2019 at 10.30 am in the meeting room, Mornington Fire Brigade, Cnr Nepean Highway and Separation Street Mornington. The guest speaker is John Hedley, a roof tiler, specialising in slate roofing. John has worked on several Mornington houses including Southdean. Cost is $5.00 per head including refreshments.
