The Annual General Meeting of the Morninton & District Historical Society Inc. will be held at 10.30 am Tuesday 13th September 2016 in the meeting room of the Mornington Fire Brigade, Nepaean Highway (near Separation Street) Mornington. All welcome.
Our next bus trip is to Government House where we will be given a guided tour of this beautiful historically interesting old mansion. We will then visit Governor Latrobe’s Cottage. The cost includes the bus and entry fees but lunch is down to you – maybe a nice day for a picnic…

The Leslie Moorhead Memorial Lecture is an annual event to commemorate the first president and founder of the Mornington & District Historical Society. The speakers this year are Diane White and Val Wilson, both society members, who will talk about researches into their respective French connections – some dating back to Huguenot times. All welcome at the cost of $10.00 per person – bargain for a couple of hours of friendship and a cup of tea.
As it is history week, Val will again conduct a walk around the pioneer graves in Mornington Cemetery. It’s a great tour and only $5.00 each. Comfortable shoes are recommended.
Our guest speaker is Jane Alexander MPSC’s Arts and Culture Mananger. Jane will give her perspective of history on our Peninsula. Local Historical Societies are part of her job description. All welcome to join us for an informative and entertaining couple of hours for only $5.00 including a cup of tea (or coffee).
Mornington & District Historical Society will conduct Historical Walks from the Old Post Office Museum located at the corner of Main Street and Esplanade Mornington on Australia Day Thursday 26th January 2017. Both the Main Street Walk and the Esplanade Walk will depart from the Museum at 10.30 am. the cost is $5.00 per person. Please be at the Museum 15 minutes before the start. The Old Post Office Museum will be open on both Cruise Ship visiting days, February 5th and 11th 2017, from 9.00 am. Closing time is dependant on ship sailing time but probably 3.30 pm.

Robert Austin will again be our guest speaker, this time on the subject of Aboriginal Art.
The Society’s next coffee morning is on Tuesday March 14th in the Meeting Room, Mornington Fire Brigade, Nepean Highway, corner of Separation Street, at 10.30am. Cost is $5.00 per person and all are welcome to join us for friendly tea or coffee. Our guest speaker is Keith White who has agreed to step in at short notice to give one of his splendid historical talks. Well worth coming.
