Bus Trip to the Victorian Arts Centre @ Bus Stop
Aug 3 @ 9:00 am – 4:00 pm

For this trip to the Victorian Arts Centre we have booked a morning guided Theatres and Exhibition Tour of the Arts Centre including Hamer Hall. The afternoon is free for you to see other exhibitions. The NGV will be show casing it’s winter exhibition “Treasure from the Hermitage” should you want to take advantge of the trip to see it.

The bus will leave from outside the old  Mechanics Institute opposite Ross Street at 9.00 am sharp.

August Coffee Morning – History Highlights of the Port Phillip Coast. @ Mornington Fire Brigade meeting room

For our August meeting Graham Paterson, a coastal walker and author, will tell about some of the fascinating natural and human history stories he uncovers on his journeys.

Entrance to the Fire Brigade is from Separation Street. There is plenty of street parking as the car park at the Fire Brigade is for emergency workers only.

Your committee willl report on the years activities and  issue the annual financial statement of Mornington & District Historical Society Inc.

Please note the change of day to the 3rd Tuesday of the month due to other commitments of the committee.

As usual, parking and entrance to the Fire Brigade is in Separation Street.

Mornington Cemetery Walk @ Mornington Cemetery
Oct 25 @ 1:30 pm – 3:00 pm

Your tour guide for the day is Val Wilson OAM who will relate the histories of several of the Mornington Pioneers buried in the cemetery. The event fee includes afternoon tea. Meet at the cemetery gates 15 minutes before the start.

Annual Leslie Moorhead Lecture at St. James the Less Church Mt. Eliza @ St. James the Less Church

This years lecture is given by Felicity Teague who will speak about the work of her great aunt Violet, and the mural she made in the St. James the Less Church. Due to limited space booking are essential. Please contact Dawn on 03 5977 0027. The church is celebrating it’s 150th anniversary this year.

November Coffee Morning @ Mornington Fire Brigade Meeting Room

This morning Dale Kelly the Mornington Shire Council’s Heritage Planner has agreed to tell us about his role in the scheme of things and about our local heritage. He may also be open to the odd question or two. Meet at the Fire Brigade. Usual parking in Separation Street.

Our next coffee morning – first for the year – is on Tuesday Feb. 9th at 10.30am in the CFA Meeting room, Nepean Highway Mornington. Our guest speaker Mick Wood is a member from UK and will tell about the London climate during the “Little Ice Age”. Mick was a member of the London Meteorological Archive unit. (like the BOM). Usual parking arrangements apply i.e. park in Separation Street as the Fire Station car park maybe needed by CFA people particularly if the weather is hot and windy…

Cemetery Walk Easter 2016 @ Mornington Cemetery

The Society will conduct a walk around historic Mornington Cemetery on Easter Monday March 28th 2016. Many of the early Mornington settlers and their families are buried there and each has a story to tell.
Your guide will be historian and author Val Wilson OAM.
The walk will leave the Cemetery gates, Craigie Road (near Nepean Highway) at 1.30pm. The cost is $5.00 per person. Please be at the gates 15 minutes prior. A comfortable pair of shoes is recommended.
