Our guest speaker will be Society member Peter Greer who is a silver (metal) enthusiast and will us tell about British Hallmarks, how silver is manufactured and how to care for your precious silver collection. However, Peter is not able to give valuations.
The Old Post Office Museum will be open on February 24th 2015 from 9.15am to 4.00 pm to greet the passengers from the visiting cruise ship. Historic Walks of Main Street and Esplanade will leave at 10.30 am and 1.30 pm. Details from Vicky 5973 5191 – places are limited. Cost of the walks is $10.00 per person. Entry only to The Museum is by $2.00 donation.
Our guest speaker this month is Eric Panther, President of the Cartophilic Society. A Cartophile is a collector of cards and Eric will tell us about various collections.

Our next all day bus trip is the The Immigration Museum and The Shrine. Leaves from the bus stop out side the old Mechanics Institute on Main Street opposite Ross Street at 9.00 am sharp. The Immigration Museum currently has exhibitions on Freedom and Scots Wha Hae. The Shrine has had a refit of new displays to commemorate 100 years of the start of WW1. Ian McCann is giving us the opportunity to show this film to members and friends. It is the Turkish film that shows the conflict from both sides and was highly acclaimed by “Margaret and David” scoring 4 1/2 and 4 stars when they reviewed it. Val Wilson has been working on the histories of the names of the men and women on the Honour Roll in Mornington Park as our contribution to the Centenary of ANZAC. The book will be launched this evening at Queens Street Mornington Council Chambers.. Please ring Diane on 03 5989 2219 for details and bookings.
Society member Joy Cullen is busy researching the history of “Wolfdene” in Wilsons Road and will share with us what she has so far discovered. Wolfdene is a remnant of a larger heritage estate with an interesting history of people and events.
The Society will conduct Historic Walks around Mornington during Queen’s Birthday weekend 7th and 8th June 2015. The Main Street walk will leave the Museum at 10.30am and the Esplanade walk at 1.30pm on both days. Please be at the Museum 15 minutes before leaving for registration. The cost is $5.00 per person for each walk and booking are not required.
The Museum will be open on both days from 10.00 am to 4.00 pm.
Ths Coffee morning this month is all about “Your Treasures”. Bring one of your treasured possessions along and tell us it’s history.
Please note that the parking at the Fire Station is for emergency crews only so please park in Separation Street.
This month’s (July) coffee morning will be a talk on the history of Mornington by Society President Diane White. Diane is often asked by various local clubs and schools to talk about local history which she willingly does with her abundant knowledge of the area. We thought it about time we asked her to give us a talk too.
