Come and join us at our annual members Christmas Lunch. We have plenty to celebrate this year. Please bring a plate to share – we will provide the liquid refreshment.
The Mornington & District Historical Society will be open in The Old Post Office Museum on Australia Day 2014 from 10.00am to 4.00pm. We will conduct two Mornington Heritage Walks at 10.30am and 2.00pm. The walks take about an hour and cover the grand old guest houses for which Mornington was famous in the hey day of the paddle steamer trips from Melbourne. The site of the Mornington Salt Water Baths is also included. The $10.00 cost includes the Heritage Award winning booklet “Mornington Heritage Walk – Esplanade, Park and Foreshore”.

Joy Cullen, one of our members, has been researching John Stratton, after who Stratton Lane has been named. He was one of the early pioneers in Mornington taking up land in the Tanti area.
Local real estate agent Fergus Nutt will talk on the history of Mt. Martha. The Nutt family have been in the area for many years and have a wealth of knowledge about the area.
We are offering the previously cancelled Werribee Homestead trip for March 2014 and hopefully the weather and school holidays wont interfer. Departure time is 08.50am from the bus stop at the Mechanics Institute Main Street opposite Ross street. We should return by 4pm. The Mornington Peninsula Historical Society was formally set up in April 1964 under the leadership of Leslie Moorhead. Leslie was a local teacher and an avid historian. We will have a variety of speakers and a dislpay of some of the first donated items from our collection.
Our guest speaker is Mr. Andrew McKenzie OAM who will tell us about his efforts to secure the history of Marysville after the devastating bushfires in which all the photographs, documents and artefacts were lost.
