September Bus Trip. @ Point Nepean Park
Sep 21 all-day

The Society’s next bus trip is on September 21st 2017 departing from the Mornington Main Street bus stop (opposite Ross Street) at 9.00 am sharp for Point Nepean National Park. On arrival at the Park a bus will take us through the Park to the Point and the Defence Installations, some of which date to the late 1800s and are considered of high historical interest.
Lunch, at your expense, is available from one of the many cafes and restaurants on Main Street Sorrento.

Cost is $50.00 per person plus lunch. Enquiries to Janet 03 9787 8685 to book.

History Week 2017 @ Mornington & District Historical Society
Oct 15 @ 10:00 am – Oct 21 @ 3:00 pm

For History Week this year the Society has a new display “Cosy Up for Tea”. This is a display of a craft group’s hand made tea cosies and a chance to see some rarely displayed linen, teapots and other relevant artefacts from the Society’s collection. The display will run throughout October. Entry is free for Seniors on Sunday October 8th & 15th.

Mornington Cemetery Walk for History Week. @ Mornington Cemetery

As part of History Week this year Val Wilson will conduct her Cemetery Walk on Sunday October 15th 2017. Please be at the main gate of the Cemetery (By the Office) by 1.15 pm for a 1.30 pm start. Val will take you round the graves of the Pioneers. A welcome cuppa will be available after. The cost is $5.00 each and we suggest a comfortable pair of shoes be worn.

The Leslie Moorhead Lecture @ Beleura @ Beleura House

This year’s Leslie Moorhouse Lecture is at Beleura House where Anthony Knight will tell us about the history of the house and the legacy left to the community by John Tallis. Morning tea and lunch, for which Beleura is famed, will be served and we will tour the house and gardens. Please book and pay – $45.00 each – for this event by September 27th and advise of any food allergies. Bookings to Vicky 0412 989 749.

IMPORTANT – PLEASE MEET AT THE FOYER OF THE MORNINGTON GOLF CLUB, TALLIS DRIVE, BY 9.20 AM AS THE BUS TO THE HOUSE DEPARTS AT 9.25 AM. PARKING IS AVAILABLE AT HE GOLF CLUB.

Australia Day 2018 @ Old Post Office Museum
Jan 26 all-day

This Australia Day January 26th the Museum will be open from 10.00 am to 3.00 pm. Entry by gold coin donation.
We will also conduct two Historical Guided Tours, one of Main Street and the other of Mornngton Park and Esplanade. They both leave the Museum at 10.30 am but please be at the Museum 15 minutes before the start for registration. The cost of each walk is $5.00 per person. All welcome.

Coffee Morning – The History of Mornington Peninsula Football @ Meeting Room, Mornington Fire Brigade

Our first Coffee Morning for 2018 is a talk by Lance Hodgins about his book “The History of Mornington Peninsula Football” All welcome to hear his interesting account of Footy on the Peninsula. Cost is $5.00 per person.

Coffee Morning – “TSS Coramba -The Ship the Sea Swallowed @ Meeting Room, Mornington Fire Brigade

Des Williams, Marine Archaeologist, will talk about his book of TSS Coramba which is a timely introduction to our excursion to Queenscliffe. All welcome to join us for tea/coffee and an entertaining talk.

Excursion to Queenscliffe Maritime Museum. @ Car Park
Mar 20 all-day

For this excursion we will be car pooling – the coach cost is getting a bit much. All to meet at the Vancouver Street car park to leave at 8.30 am to catch the 10.00 am Searoad Ferry from Sorrento. The cars will be left at Sorrento.
On board the ferry Devonshire morning tea will be served (Yum) and a lift from their car deck to the lounge is provided. The Queenscliffe Maritime Museum visit is one hour guided tour. Lunch is at your expense, either a picnic in the park or at one of the many cafes and restaurants in the town.

May Coffee Morning @ Meeting Room Mornngton Fire Brigade

We have a very interesting guest speaker this month in John Hedley. John is slate roof and tiling expert who has worked on Mornington houses and won aHeritage Award for his work. The venue is our usual meeting room at the Fire Brigade, corner of Nepean Highway and Separation Street Mornnington. Al welcome for the princely cost of $5.00 each. Join us for a cuppa – tea or coffee and good company.
